Begoña Diaz-Urgorri and Leon Benacerraf set up their architectural practice in 1994. As principals of B+DU estudio de arquitectura, their own firm, they have received recognition for their work both nationally and internationally. They have received the awards “22nd MADRID CITY COUNCIL PLANNING, ARCHITECTURE AND CIVIL ENGINEERING AWARD (2007)”, New Housing development; the 2008 Asprima-Sima award for the best New Housing development Public Initiative Social Housing; the “21st MADRID CITY COUNCIL PLANNING, ARCHITECTURE AND CIVIL ENGINEERING AWARD (2006)”, New Housing development; the AIA CALIFORNIA COUNCIL HONOR AWARD. SOCIAL HOUSING, Madrid, Spain. American Institute of Architects; and the “13th MADRID CITY COUNCIL PLANNING, ARCHITECTURE AND CIVIL ENGINEERING AWARD (1998)”, Temporary Projects, December 1998.

They have taken part in numerous design competitions, and been awarded for their social housing projects for the Empresa Municipal de la Vivienda y el Suelo, EMVS (Madrid´s Municipal Housing Development Agency), the Madrid Chamber of Commerce Building on Calle Huertas, and the VIALIA High Speed Train Station in Vigo.

Their work has been included in many exhibitions, congresses, and conferences, including the ON-SITE exhibition at the New York Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in 2006, the 2007 exhibition at the Royal Institute of British Architects in London (RIBA), the 2007 exhibition at the AEDES am Pfefferberg Gallery in Berlin and the Shanghai World Expo in June 2010.

Their work has featured in specialist books and journals, such as Arquitectura Viva, GA DOCUMENT No. 102. The Architectural Review. Architecture and Ecology Journal no. 1332. Madrid Circuit City. ICON Journal no. 054. The Architectural Review. Economy Journal 1311.

They have lectured at institutions and universities in Spain, Italy, the United States, Germany and Mexico.

In the academic sphere, Begoña Diaz-Urgorri is a faculty member at the Madrid Technical University School of Architecture, ETSAM since year 2000, and has also taught at the European University of Madrid, UEM from 2007 to 2012. She has also been invited to sit on the juries panels of several competitions.

BDU is an international architecture studio specializing in Contemporary Architecture, Urban Planning, Technological Investigation and Cultural Analysis and focusing on practice and experimentation.

BDU estudio de arquitectura is involved in a broad range of projects including single-family housing, housing blocks, shopping centers, sports centers, major infrastructures and urban planning projects, modular structures, etc.

BDU is currently working on the VIALIA High Speed Train Station in Vigo, Spain, and the refurbishment of the Palacio de Santoña, which is to house the headquarters of the Madrid Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
